To catch a killer, get a clue!
Not only is a killer on the loose—he’s also taunting the police with a scavenger hunt that he created, which could reveal his (or maybe her!) identity, the murder weapon, and the scene of the crime. The police need your help sifting through the hunt for its secrets. You’ll follow a trail of clues, answer tricky questions, and use close-ups of art to find the originals, all to gather the evidence you need to lock up the killer. Is your team up for the challenge?
No knowledge of the museum or art is necessary. You just need sharp eyes, comfy shoes, and decent detective skills. The hunt is a somewhat easier, and shorter, alternative to the Murder at the Getty Scavenger Hunt, which makes it the perfect team-building or birthday-party activity for groups looking for unusual fun.
A version of this game for kids and adults to play together is also available. It’s suitable for ages 10 and up. The family that sleuths together has a blast together!
What happy hunters are saying about the Getty scavenger hunt
“Thank you so much. It was an EXQUISITE TIME! I loved it so much, and the group was beyond happy. Thank you so much, and especially to our wonderful host, Joshua. He was phenomenal. Looking forward to doing another adventure with you soon!” —a group that booked a private hunt

A scavenger hunt even a muggle will love
This magical tour of the Getty Center will send you in search of art that echoes the enchanted world of Harry Potter. Keep your wand handy as you hunt for…
- fierce dragons and trusty owls
- unicorns and centaurs that look like they emerged from the Forbidden Forest
- strange mermaids and sharks that seem straight out of the Triwizard Tournament
- cloaked and masked figures that would send shivers through Death Eaters and Dementors
- characters that will remind you of Hagrid and Snape and other Hogwarts faculty members
The hunt is not an addition to or variation on Harry’s adventures. Instead, references to the books and movies provide a surprising bridge to many fascinating and unexpected works of art.
Don’t worry if not everyone in your group has seen the movies or read the books: each team gets a Cheat Sheet for anyone who might not know, say, the name of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
What are people saying about the Wizard School hunt?
A 5-star Yelp review: “Love love LOVE Watson Adventures! Whether you’re a tourist or LA native, it’s an exceptional way to discover different places in Los Angeles. I’ve done the Harry Potter hunt at the Getty, which was a blast and also great for kids….Very well organized and fun group of people at Watson Adventures. Hope to do more in the future. Keep up the great work!”
Another Yelp review: “We participated in the Hogwarts scavenger hunt, where clues take you to different places around the Getty. It’s great for groups and for families with little children. All the children seemed like they had a blast and were so much more competitive than the adults….Some of the clues are pretty challenging—we didn’t get some of them correct. However, we had a good time and I’d definitely go to another of their scavenger hunts.”

Your tasks may involve strange uses for food, new lyrics for old songs, people in any kind of uniform, strangers wearing valuable words, secrets about local landmarks, and more. Three items that rhyme? Something improved by being broken? You’ll be surprised by the results that come from great teamwork.
