The Plane Crazy Scavenger Hunt at the Cradle of Aviation Museum
Brace yourself for high-flying fun
Your mission: to zero in on the most surprising and funniest facts in the Cradle of Aviation Museum’s amazing aerial collection. You’ll encounter plenty of real planes, of course, from the earliest ones at the dawn of flight to an actual lunar landing module. But you’ll also discover a World War I garage, the 1920s Hempstead Plains, astronaut food, quirky pioneers of flight, cranky neighbors, and much more, as you collaborate with your team to answer tricky, humorous questions.
You might tackle such questions as…
- Which “president” flew the bouncing bovine below a dragon kite? Answer: Lincoln Beachey flew an airship called the Rubber Cow, as seen in a photo.
- What did a naval officer change after hearing complaints about early flying hours from a resident of Lloyd’s Neck? Answer: He moved the training flight time from 5 a.m. to 4 a.m.
- The museum stands at the airfield where Lindbergh took off for his historic solo flight across the Atlantic. How many bounces did it take him fly? Answer: His plane bounced four times before getting airborne, as seen in a video.
But you don’t need to know anything about planes or the museum to play or to win: all you need is good teamwork, sharp eyes, and comfy shoes.
We also offer a Murder Mystery Edition. Either version is great for any event where you want to get people interacting, bonding, and laughing.
The Kids Edition challenges children and adults to take flight together, in a quest that makes for a great school field trip or an unusual birthday party. Suitable for ages 7 and up.
